Note-taking is a very important tool for interpreters when doing consecutive interpretation.Note-taking is to help retrieving part of interpreter’s source information understandingfrom short-term memory. When source information is dense, note-taking has dual role. Itbrings positive impact if it is applied correctly by interpreter. But it brings negative impactto interpretation quality if it is misapplied. This thesis analyses the misapplication ofnote-taking in the Chinese-English consecutive interpretation simulation of “China Forum”,and its negative impact to the coordination between listening and note-taking and to thequality of interpretation. Based on the case analysis, the thesis suggests some solutions toavoid misapplication of note-taking when interpreting dense source information and toimprove the effectiveness of note-taking so as to fully exert the positive impact.
