In modern Chinese, we often use some adverbs such as “since”,“always”,“usually”,“all long”,“lately” to express time. Their meaning and usage is very close. The author found that there still exist some blanks in the analysis of these words. Inthis thesis, the author uses statistical analysis and diachronic investigation method tomake a classification and interpretation on the part of speech of this group of words, pointing out the fact that they are all adverbs of time and attributive words, which areevolved by adverbs. Then the author systematically compares and analyzessimilarities and differences of these words, by using statistical analysis, semanticanalysis, syntactic analysis, semantic analysis, pragmatic analysis and other researchmethods, from the semantic, syntactic and pragmatic aspects. The contents mainlyinclude the semantic aspects, pointing out that this group of time adverbs all have thefeature of expressing time and tense, expressing a static situation continues for a longtime or a dynamic abstract behavior of a person or an object in the sentence. Themeaning often carries a habit of righteousness, but “since” is different from otherwords in the initial point, the kill point of time and subjective and objective color. Inthe syntactic aspects, the author examines distribution of them in positive andnegative sentences and explores its cause, and comparatively analyzes theircoordination with the predicate in positive and negative sentences and the similaritiesand differences on the sorting and semantic orientation with some common adverbs.
