Based on others’ research results, this paper chooses the ethnic musical image of theKhitan Liao Dynasty States as the subject of this study, aiming at investigating thedevelopment situation of the Khitan ethnic music in the Liao dynasty with the statisticalmethod.The article begins with an overview of the ancient records and modern researches of theKhitan music, by which it provides a brief introduction to the Khitan music. Second, themusic image reproduces the Khitan ethnic music that disappeared long since, which canprovide more objective and sensitive materials for the local cultural development and in-depthstudy of the history of the Khitans’ music. Therefore, the introduction to the Khitan musicalimage is essential for what is discussed later. The last part of this section defines the range ofthe Khitan musical image and makes statistics about the classification of its vector.The third section of chapter two is the core part of this paper, making differences ofmusic among various regions by analyzing the occurrence numbers of the musicalinstruments in musical images from five areas of the Liao dynasty. With unique point of viewand interpretation, the author analyses and illustrates the variety of Khitan ethnic musicalinstruments and music of the Liao Dynasty, then makes a list of main musical instrumentsused by the Khitans and their service conditions, which confirms that a musical instrumentthat looks like modern Mongolia horse head string instrument is actually the flip dialinstrument named Erxian at that time, with an illumination of this instrument’ usage followed.As for the research of variety of music, the author focuses on the exploration of music groupsand aesthetic appreciation of sound. The analysis of sound from typical music groups thatconsists of two people or more, confirms the Khitans’ preference for sound, which does morethan the research of the instrument itself.The last chapter raises the discussion to a level of Culture-Theory, getting the conclusionthat the Khitan Liao music’s “synchronization" with that of other nations, and " otherness"with other nations in other areas and the same nation in the same area after the analysis.The Liao Empire takes over North Prairie and extends to the North China area, with their richness of music and culture proven effectively before. The purpose of this article is toenhance the national status and upgrade the social status of its musical culture. The Khitanmusic is one of the various ancient Chinese cultures. The author gains insight into the overalldevelopment of Khitan music by personalized analysis, gets a perspective of its nationalmusic culture, in which the author especially wants to grasp what kind of state the essence ofits music is in, and finally proves the effect of its music on music in ancient china. The authormainly draws support from a variety of vivid images, making comparisons between varioustrue to life scene feeling and the musical instrument used, then compares the literature andimages with "double evidence act", and finally comes up with the regular patterns of usingKhitan ethnic music."Insider" and "outsiders" in" and" out" also make the argument moreobjective.
