Research On Khitan-Liao Drum And Wind Music

Percussion and Wind music is one of the most important court music in the Kitai-Liao period.The light and flexible playing form,the exquisite and magnificent powerful musical expression as well as its solemn ceremonial function are loved by the rulers.In the ancient times of China,Percussion and Wind music played a decisive role in all dynasties through historical changes and constant development.Today,the people in the northern region still perform with this ancient music,which can be seen in many activities such as entertainment,rituals,etiquette.Therefore,the study of Percussion and Wind music provides a useful reference for promoting the in-depth development of related music research work.Still,the research concerning the music in the Kitai-Liao period helps us to understand the development of Chinese music after the period of Tang dynasty and the period of five dynasties and the ten kingdoms.In particular,it provides important references for the development and inheritance of ancient northern music in China.The author gives a brief overview of the Percussion and Wind music and Cross-blow music in the Kitai-Liao period from the aspects of the production,development,dissemination,application,band compilation,use of musical instruments,image materials,etc.Besides,the author gives a summary and comparison concerning the use and compilation of Percussion and Wind music and Cross-blow music in Tang dynasty,Kitai-Liao period and Song dynasty,which contributes to sort out and carry out study about the music development of Kitai-Liao period and later development.The reference getting from the music culture of the Tang Dynasty by the music in Kitai-Liao period together with the comparison of the musical and cultural forms among Song,Liao and Jin Dynasties,which helps us to study the exchange of music culture at that time and make up the weaknesses and deficiency in ancient Chinese music history.
