The Chronicle Biography Of Li Cheng-xiang

Li Cheng-xiang(1617-1687), who named Qixuan, with another name Jijin, has two assumed names, Muzhai and Dongcun. He was born in Zhanhua, Shandong province. Specifically, Li Cheng-xiang was from Xiguan village of Gucheng town, which is in Zhanhua county, Binzhou city of Shandong province. He passed the Provincial Examination in the fifteenth year of Chongzhen(the last emperor of the Ming Dynasty,1642), and passed the highest imperial examination held in the palace under the emperor’s supervision the next year(1643). Entering the Qing Dynasty, Li Cheng-xiang held several positions successively as follows:taking charge of the Editing of Secretary College in Hanlin Academy, the Speak bachelor in National Historical Institute, A libation of The Imperial College, Vice President of Factual record. And he had been an officer to Shao Zhanshi in Zhanshifu. In the tenth year of Shunzhi (1653), the first emperor of the Qing Dynasty, Li Cheng-xiang was exiled to the north of the Great Wall for eight years, because that he presented a throne called Discerning Maan-Hahn and offended some people. In the seventeenth year of Shunzhi (the first emperor of the Qing Dynasty,1660), Li Cheng-xiang was pardoned and came back to hometown. During this period, he often talked about history and poets with his friends and went out for several times. Li Cheng-xiang died in the twenty sixth year of Kangxi (the second emperor of the Qing Dynasty,1687) at the age of71.As one of the important figures on the northeast exiled poetry in the early Qing, it’s a real regret that there is no one chronicle of Li Cheng-xiang yet. Therefore, the thesis makes a careful review of Li Cheng-xiang’s pedigree to fill this vacancy.First, it has tried to list Li Cheng-xiang’s life and experience year after year accurately.Second, it has confirmed the writing time of Li Cheng-xiang’s calligraphy works and poetries.Third, it pays important attention to collecting and sorting out relevant information so as to play a fundamental and data-availed role in Li Cheng-xiang’s research.The thesis was divided into following parts: Legend preface:Explaining the style and the principle of the biographical chronology’s arranging.Biographical chronology:This is the main part of the thesis, listing historical events, Li Cheng-xiang’s experience, writings, friendship and so on by year. In addition, the thesis makes detailed comments and descriptions of the above aspects, and conducts research on related issues.Bibliography and appendix.
