Modal adverbs in modern Chinese have always been regarded as the focus of theacademic research.The focus on this study is adverbs "mingming" and "fenming"andwe compare them from the syntactic, semantic, pragmatic analysis.The full text is divided into five parts:The first part is the introduction.It is about the Research status and methods thatwe have used.The second part is about the semantic aspect.Compared from Semantic featuresand background,we find out users of"mingming" tend to use it for objective facts."Mingming" has more of the characteristics of prototype category than "fenming" inModal adverbs which are used to indicate emphasis.But combined with data,we haveto say "fenming" has more of the characteristics of being subjective. Analyzing thedifferences between "mingming" and "fenming" we come to conclusion that"fenming"is more closed to envents itself than "fenming".The third part is about the syntactic aspect.In the sentence par it is likely to be“NP+明明/分明+VP”or“(这/那)明明/分明+(是)+NP+VP”and both of them canbe used in declarative sentence, rhetorical question and exclamation.Moved to the topof the sentence,"mingming" and "fenming" are in the compass of the wholesentence.On the contrary,they are in the compass of some words.The forth part is about the pragmatic aspect.We analyze from the context andinformation function and it turns out that both of them act as the textual themes andinterpersonal theme.But if it lies in the midst of a sentence,it has to be interpersonaltheme.The fifth part is about the Teaching Chinese as a foreign language.Based on thewhole passage we offer some advices and strategy to teachers.The last part is the summary. I summarize all the paper and indicate innovationand shortage.
