The Study Of The Manufacture Of Food Words Of Tian Gong Kai Wu

“Tian Gong Kai Wu”was written by Song Yingxing,It is an importantliterature in Chinese science and technology history.The whole book consistsof three volumes. And these volumes include eighteen chapters.They arerelated to every aspect of Agriculture and handicraft industry.The bookcontains extensive contents.It is similar to an encyclopaedia whichsummarizes the technologies of Agriculture and handicraft industry beforeMing Dynasty.So it plays an important role in the science and technologyhistory. So far,the studies of this book have some papers and research findingsin the fields of linguistics,but the research did not carryed out sufficiently.Therefore,it is necessary to study this famous book.My paper’s contents comprise three parts. The first part is the foreword.Itintroduces Song Yingxing and the whole book,then the researchconditions,research significances and methods. The second part is theclassification and describtion of the manufacture of food words in this book.According to the standards of classification of raw materials, appliances,technologies and varieties.It classifies and explains the manufacture of foodwords from the first chapter to the fourth chapter.From it we can know the conditions of economy or science and technology in Ming Dynasty. The thirdpart is the values about the Big Dictionary of Chinese.This part contrasts theBig Dictionary of Chinese.It finds the manufacture of food words which isas cases in point, advances the time of examples and adds the meanings.As a whole,the research significances of this thesis are as follows:firstly,It has significant values for the research of vocabulary.The manufactureof food words of Tian Gong Kai Wu usually refer to some specializedwords,they are general words too.They are also the significant sorts inChinese vocabulary. Secondly,there is the value in science and technologyhistory.The traditional technologies in manufacture of food words oftencontain abundant informations of science and technology or culture.So it hasvery important value for the research of science and technology history.Thirdly,it is helpful for us to understand the situations of economy or scienceand technology in Ming Dynasty.These words often mirror directly the livingsituations of science and technology or society in Ming Dynasty. Last but notthe least,it has the reference values to compile lexicons.These words areconnected with words of Agriculture and handicraft industry or technologicalprocess. They have strong specialty.The research results will have importantreferenced value to revise lexicon and compile glossary of Agriculture andhandicraft industry.
