In the context of the growing trend of globalization,countries worldwide communicate with one another more frequently,and Eastern and Western cultures grow constantly integrated.The soaring economy increases China’s influence upon the world.But the world’s understanding of China is more confined to the information released from the media outlets.To understand the country with 5000 years of history and splendid culture which has made significantly positive contribution to the whole world,it is indispensable to read Chinese classics which are the crystallization of the wisdom of its people.For China who requires to promote itself more proactively,it is strongly essential and urgent to translate and do a deeper study of the rich deposit of Chinese classics.However,the translation of literary classics has received more attention while the translation of sci-tech classics accounts for only a small proportion.Therefore,it is high time for scholars to exert more efforts to the translation and introduction of Chinese sci-tech classics.In view of the selected translation of the famous Chinese sci-tech classic Tian Gong Kai Wu,the report analyzes the main difficulties encountered in the process of translation and probes into fitting translation techniques that can resolve the issues by comparing the translation and the well-acknowledged version rendered by E-TU ZEN SUN and SHIOU-CHUAN SUN.The first chapter introduces the historical background of the translation of Chinese classics,especially sci-tech classics,as well as the objective and significance of the task.The second chapter includes the introduction of the task,features of the original text and the translation process.The third chapter lists the main difficulties the author encountered in the process of translating at the lexical and syntactic levels.The fourth chapter is the core part which expounds on the translation techniques the author applied to tackle the difficulties in translating.The final chapter summarizes the findings and limitations in the hope of offering some reference for the translation of Chinese sci-tech classics.
