Wang Hailing’s novels are drawn mainly from the ordinary people who lived inthe period when China just carried out the reform and opening up policy. These worksreproduce a true picture of the common people’s complex marriage from differentangles and in different aspects. Her works well analyze how the consumption cultureaffected the social values and values of love; analyze the influence of materialdesire on alienation of human nature and the impact of consumption culture on urbanpeople’s marriage, which once caused a sensation in the community.The paper tries to make a research on six of Wang Hailing’s novels in order tomake a better understanding of her works from the view of consumption culture. Thefirst chapter analyzes the writing background of Wang Hailing’s works. As theglobalization of the economy settled in China, consumption culture influenced Chinaa lot at all levels. Mass culture has gradually stepped on Chinese culture stage andplayed an increasingly important role. Wang Hailing’s works began in thisbackground, and consciously developed to mass culture. The second chapter aims atthe style of consumption culture character implied in the content from four aspects.The first is the "ordinary" narrative choice. Wang Hailing’s works describes mostlythe ordinary crowd, and depicts the daily life of the ordinary, both of which are filledwith civilian color. The second is an analysis of view of love in the context ofconsumer culture: love is permanent only in a certain moment;love is material. WangHailing’s new concept of love is proved by the experiences of the characters in thebook. Thirdly, the impact of consumption culture on modern marriage is analyzed inthe following three aspects:from the impact of consumption culture on marriage;withthe absence of responsibility and the flooding of emotion;the mix of old and newcultural value systems. The fourth is the analysis of Wang Hailing new understandingand new development on female consciousness. The shock of consumption culture onsociety and marriage also brought certain influence on the development of feminineconsciousness. Women pay more attention to the cause, gradually moves actively in the family and society. The third chapter discusses the consumption culture in theprocess of circulation of the works of Wang Hailing. Wang Hailing uses commercialmeans in the production and sales: making the writer branded by “fans culture”,making outer packing of the books or making the text books visualized. At the sametime, the negative impact of consumption culture on the work is discussed in thischapter.
