On The Strategies Of Social And Cultural Information Conversion In Translation Of The Television Series Text

Due to cultural differences, people in the west and east have different understandingof the cultural phenomena and connotations. So, the author argues when translatingChinese culture texts, some cultural information should be converted and adjustedproperly so that the target culture audience will achieve better understanding of thesource culture. As a result, the translation will become more effective and accurate incommunication and understanding of the source cultural phenomena and connotations.This empirical study of translation practice, based on Folk Songs of Hainan, Pureand Sweet Xiangxi in TV series: Songs from Heaven, discusses how to deal with thesocial and cultural information conversion between Chinese and English translation ofthe television series text. The article comes up with some strategies such as adding oromitting, adjustment or integration, restructuring or combination, and some remarks. Indoing so, the translation will become more accurate, readable and effective. The articleaims at finding out the inner general laws so as to provide a reference for the translationof such texts, and achieve a better understanding of the source of culture.This paper applies the methods of qualitative analysis and comparative study,analyzing the empirical translation of Folk Songs of Hainan, Pure and Sweet Xiangxi inTV series: Songs from Heaven, the main contents are organized as follows:The introductory section clears the object of study, questions and significances ofthis paper.Chapter one is about overview on the cultural information conversion. Two issuesare illustrated, they are the concept of cultural information conversion and why culturalinformation conversion should be done.Chapter Two concerns about the case description and its culture information in thecase of Folk Songs of Hainan, Pure and Sweet Xiangxi in TV series: Songs from Heaven.It is divided into cultural information description and case description.Chapter three is about the strategy of how to convert the cultural information whentranslation from Chinese to English. Namely, to delete or to add cultural information,reorganize or integrate cultural information, adjust or convert cultural information andfinally make the necessary cultural remarks. Epilogue summarizes the paper and points out the achievements, weak points andoutlook of it.
