Zhu Xunde, a famous Hunan Gongbi painter of the age, has made greatachievements due to his over forty years’ devotion to the exploration of Gongbipaintings. His works combine the Chinese traditional Gongbi, folk art with western art,exploring and developing new forms and languages of meticulous paintings. Hisworks have been exhibited many times in numerous international and domestic artexhibitions; as a result, his awards and accomplishment made him a leader ofcontemporary Gongbi paintings. His works such as Spring Flowers, Spring Prelude,Overturned Spicy, Chinese Year reflect Zhu’s Goingbi characteristics in differentphases, as well as his significant impact on this field. He is a diligent scholar andeducator. He has served not only as the mentor, director, dean of Academy of FineArts, but also as professor, supervisor of graduate students and doctoral candidate inHunan Normal University. Therefore, his artistic ideas have influenced many youngartists. Meanwhile, as the chairman of Hunan Artists Association, he organized aseries of artistic activities and made an important contribution to the development ofHunan Fine Arts, whose influence is positive and far-reaching. Doing a research onZhu’s Goingbi art is beneficial both to the study of contemporary Hunan Fine Arts andto the practice of Gongbi paintings.This thesis focuses on the researches on Zhu Xunde’s Gongbi process history,artistic language and their artistic values. The introduction mainly presents thisresearch project of this thesis, together with its significance and methods. ChapterOne, according to Zhu’s life experiences and painting style, analyzes his three artisticGongbi phases: the early portraits, scenic portraits of heavy color, new color paintingexploration, including its social, historical and cultural background. The first sectionof Chapter Two analyzes his artistic languages, that is, a unique line drawing, flyingsymbols and gorgeous colors and so on; the second section of Chapter Two analyzeshis artist styles, ranging from the simple countryside complex, a rich culturalatmosphere to the poetic picture moods. Chapter Three summarizes his ideas ofGoingbi paintings. Chapter Four comments on his artistic contribution and impact onGoingbi paintings.
