Hegel is the one of the representative figures in German classical philosophy.InHegel’s philosophical system, the discourse on history is an important part. Hegel’Philosophy of History achieved the most important theoretical result on social historystudy,before Marxism came into being, which contained abundant dialectics thoughtsand historical realities, including his thought of laws of history.Laws of history is the very important issue studied by historical materialism inChina. Chinese scholars have studied laws of history from different angles, such as:the essence of laws of history, the property of laws of history, the relationship betweenhuman activities and laws of history etc. There exist consensus and dispute amongthose study achievements. The study on theory of laws of history helps us betteruncover historical mysteries in such a complicated and intricate society and betterunderstand the essence of development of human society. This thesis bases on Hegel’sunderstanding of laws of history to elaborate Hegel’ Thought of Laws of History andits theoretical value.For the first part, it narrates the society background in Hegel’ life anddifferentiates and analyzes the basic characteristics and manifestations of laws ofhistory in different historical period.For the second part,it summarizes Hegel’ basic content on thought of laws ofhistory. Hegel utilized the basic motive power of historical development, human’ rolein historical process, and historical realities to explain the law that history developsfrom junior to senior level and uncover the inner inevitable connection hidden fromthe complex social phenomenon.For the third part, it appraises Hegel’ thought of laws of history by explaining itsrationality and limitation. Marx correctly revealed the laws of development of humansocial history by criticizing and inheriting Hegel’ theory of laws of history’ For the fourth part, it starts with the negation of laws of history from modernwestern philosophers. Among them, Popper was the most typical one, and this partexplicates how he opposed the existence of laws of history and analyses why heopposed it. In regard with the present times, it also offers some advice on how tobetter grasp laws of history and set up communist belief for us.
