Huang Tingjian is the leader of the School of Jiangxi, his poetry is the mostcharacteristics esteem of Song Shi, and makes an enormous impact on thedevelopment of the Song Dynasty. There are three popular variorums on Shangupoetry respectively written by Ren Yuan, Shi Rong and Shi Jiwen in the Song Dynasty.This thesis research the three variorums as a whole, mainly on their exegesis contents,the traits of the exegesis, the use of exegetical methods and excellence in theannotations, finding that they have much in common such as intentions to annotate,characteristics to form and approaches to note. Besides of that explanations of thecontext, background in textual criticism, interpretation of verses, the annotations ofthe three annotations were checked, researches into annals were done, some currentaffairs were researched and the purposes of the poet were explained by usingempirical method of historiography. What they did was exceptionally commendable,having attained the academic levels of three annotations to the poems by HuangTingjian.This thesis conducts a comprehensive inspection in the three annotations, andstrives to materials full and accurate; in order to have a more comprehensiveunderstanding, and provide some basis to the related studies of “Poem Collections ofShangu” in poetry notes.This thesis takes the three annotations of “Poem Collections of Shangu” as theobject of study. First of all, study exegesis contents of the three annotationscomprehensively, on this foundation, discuss their characteristics of annotation.Research shows that, as a succession of unified whole, three annotations notedexegesis contents of all complete, loaded copious references, and formed the threescholars special characteristics of annotation, this reflected the academic spirit of thetimes. Their annotation method is mature, through history to prove poetry, by usingempirical method of historiography. These create a new tradition in the poetryannotation, reflecting the achievement and development of they note Song. They have important value of literature studies, and make a significant impact on the later poetryhermeneutics.This thesis is composed of five parts.The first part is an introduction, making a brief account of the significance of thissubject. This part also states the materials and methods used in this thesis, clarifyingthe scope of this study.The second part mainly discusses the contents in the three annotations of “PoemCollections of Shangu”. It involves explanation of the context, background in textualcriticism, interpretation of verses and correcting of annotations.The third part states the exegesis straits in the three annotations of “PoemCollections of Shangu”. They have the wide citations, the sources of value, and thetextual criticisms of value, the textual evidences of value, comments and the allusionsof value in common. Also have style to follow and contents of the supplementary.Part four mainly focuses on the empirical method of historiography in the threeannotations of “Poem Collections of Shangu”. Three annotations used history to provepoetry, reflected the following three aspects: researches into annals were done, somecurrent affairs were researched and the purposes of the poet were explained.Part five of this thesis assesses the value and contribution in the three annotationsof “Poem Collections of Shangu”. Three annotations have the very high value ofliterature studies, and make significant contribution on the poetry hermeneutics.
