The Study Of Liu Tingji’s Poetry

Liu Tingji has been famous for his poems during Kang Xi’s eras of Qing Dynasty. Many Famous people write poem prefaces for his collections, such as Wang Shizhen, Rong Luo, Gao Shiqi, Wu Zhizhen and so on. The collections ofGe Zhuang Chronological Poem,which includes one thousand nine hundred and seventy-four poems and records thirty-six years of Tingji’s life times, is redacted by Tingji self in his later years. The poems have various contents and diversity poetry themes such as narrations, chanting things, historical poem and their like. What’s more, they present all kinds of folk customs as well. Besides, some of Tingji’s poetic views have particularity in the history of poetry in the Qing Dynasty. For example, he thinks that the spirit is the most important part in the poem, which has a profound effect on later generations, such as Yuan Mei and so on. Under the background of a heated debating happened between the Tang Shi and Song Shi in the beginning of Qing Dynasty, Liu tries to make balance between the two, which is so commendable at that time. And the prominent characteristic of his poems is that many folk customs’life and culture are described in the collections. Moreover, Liu Tingji make contact with many celebrities in the parnassus of Kang Xi’s eras. The study of The collections of Ge Zhuang Chronological Poem can benifit us to know more about the development of the parnassus of Kang Xi’s eras.This paper is aim to analyze The collections of Ge Zhuang Chronological Poem. In this paper, the method of poems and history confirmed mutually,He can size up people by his simple devices comment the man and the world,and text research should be used to discuss Liu’s life experience, divide the period of his creations, explore the theme、Characteristic、thoughts of the poems. The whole paper has four parts. The first part introduces Liu’s families、social contact、officialdom experience, and the stages of creation. The letter two will be detailed introduced. Secondly, the theme of poems will be analyzed in this part. And we focus on the poetry of narrations、send farewell、elegy, poem in paiting、political poem and their like. The third part discuses the Characteristic of Liu’s poem, which including that in and out of Xiang shan、praise highly of Jian nan、the feature of folk songs and the region feature. The fourth part explores Liu’s poetic thoughts.He argues that spirit is the most important factors in poems,and poet should be balancing the Tang Shi and Song Shi in his writing, and he also advocates that the thoughts of renovation and like pop, should be possessed as a poet.Last, we draw a conclusion about Liu Tingji’s poetry, and evaluate the pros and cons of his collections, and point out what is the further study of this research can be done in the future.
