As the shift from the industrial civilization to the ecological civilization and the development ofthe global eco-ideology, the term “ecology” has become a way of thinking which is adopted indiversified scientific fields. Eco-translatology which mainly bases on the “approach totranslation as adaptation and selection”, explains and describes from the perspective ofEco-translatology the essence, process, standard, principle, method and translation phenomenacreatively. Eco-translatolagy which abides by the law of “survival of the fittest” has been widelyapplied to the text translation since its formal establishment in2001.This thesis attempts to apply it into the translation of Peony Pavilion,the paradigm of Kunqu andto analyze the strategies of the translators in the transformations of language, culture andcommunication through the comparative studies of the three English versions by Cyril Birch,Zhang Guangqian and Wang Rongpei so as to expound the applicability of the theory in thetranslation of Peony Pavilion.The author intends to give new interpretation about the Kunqutranslation from the perspective of Eco-translatolagy through the discussion of this thesis.
