Study Of Ai Wu’s Works Of The Travel To The South

Ai Wu’ series of novels and prose works on the first journey to the south write about his unique traveling experiences and lead the readers into a new world which, to some extent, transcends the imposed constraints and social bondage. This dissertation consists of three chapters according to the six unique experiences in his travel serving as the clues. This dissertation is trying to analyze the modern significance within of Ai Wu’s works of travel to the south and to interpret the art forms and the connotation of the works.The first chapter explained the distinct feelings on time and space in the journey to the south series of works. There were three specific manifestations, namely, hiding the cause and result, emphasizing the irreversibility of time and using the relatively independent yet continuous literary forms.The second chapter mainly analyzed the occasionality within Ai Wu’s works in two aspects. At first, we analyzed the occasionality of the people appear in the works and confirmed the significance of emphasizing the occasionality of life in the social, ideological and cultural background at that time. Then, we summarized the enchantment of occasionality in Ai Wu’s eyes.The third chapter analyzed the relationship between freedom and roam. Firstly, we expounded how did Ai Wu separated the people’s lives from the bondages of the social environment, ethnic groups and nation, and finally get rid of the pressure of that time. Secondly, we analyzed Ai Wu’s unique angle in the travel reflected in his works and associated this angle with his situation in the literary world to reveal the same feature—both involvement and keeping proper distance. Thirdly, it is about the natural and fragile relations among Ai Wu and his accompanies in the travel. By analyzing the essence and fragility of the relations, we compared the relations in Ai Wu’s work and those between people in modern society and revealed the similarities in the end.
