After investigating loneliness among high school students, the author compiles the Loneliness Rating Scale, which includes12items. The scale is of a single dimension because I believe that the loneliness different group of people felt, in its specific nature, doesn’t vary greatly and that loneliness can be studied separately from social behavior and social quality. The exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis shows that the reliability and validity of the rating scale is fine. Making use of this self-compiled rating scale as well as two questionnaires, I study the relationship between loneliness, friendship quality and family cohesion evaluation. The conclusions are as follows:1. As for the loneliness high school children feel, there isn’t significant difference between different genders or between the single children and those who are not. However, loneliness differs markedly between students of different grades. The loneliness felt by the first year students is the lowest. On the scale, the score difference between the students who receive different parenting is obvious, but it seems not significant.2. In terms of friendship quality, the girls score significantly higher than boys. The third year students’ scores are significantly higher than those of the students in the other grades. The single child’s scores are higher than the scores of those who are not. Also, students who are brought up with a democratic type of parenting get higher scores than those who receive neglectful parenting.3. In the two scales on family cohesion evaluation (paternal vs maternal) there is no difference between genders or grades, or between single children and those who are not. The students who receive authoritarian parenting, democratic parenting or indulging parenting score markedly higher than those who receive neglectful parenting.4. There exits correlation between loneliness and friendship quality, between loneliness and family cohesion evaluation. Their Significant probability values of test have reached a significant level, but the coefficients of correlation are less than0.4, showing the degree of lower-middle.5. Loneliness mainly originates in self-consciousness and self-conflicts. The friendship quality and family affinity cannot directly predict high school students’loneliness.
