| The image of Satan has been considered to be a significant part of western culture. He was regarded as a negative character, whether in the aspect of ethical or the aspect of human nature. The development of Christian culture, standard of human morality set the lever for him in the level of deterrence and alert, do a very good bedding. Objectively Satan does not exist, but as a prototype and cultural symbol, it really presence in the literary world. From Dante’s "Divine Comedy" in the medieval time, Milton’s "Paradise Lost" in the17th century, Goethe’s "Faust"in the18th century, Lermontov’s "Devil" in the19th century and Gard Cove’s "master and Margarita "in the20th century, the image of Satan has undergone a series of evolution.Dante’s "Divine Comedy" followed the literary tradition of Bible, in which Satan is defined as the antithesis of God. Milton’s "Paradise Lost" was the first to break through the limitation of religion where Satan was depicted as a proud warrior and active rebel."Faust" converged all the contradictions of human nature, became the first one in history who courage people to do good with his bad deed. Lermontov’s "Devil" is a bold negation, that courage people to pursuit happiness and love.
