As we all know, the Romantic Literary Ideological Trend is never a local literary and artistic ideological trend in China, and it has been through many variations since it was translated in China in the20th century. The representative romantic writers in China:Guo Moruo, Yu Dafu showed us how these variations occurred, affected with the traditional Chinese culture.First of all, this essay introduces the definition of Romanticism. Generally we consider the local European Romanticism as legend, retro, back to the Middle Ages, and confrontation to Rationalism of Classicism. However, there is never a standard definition for Romanticism, which is too broad to cover. Therefore, in the turbulent China of the20th century, the Romantic literature became something different as translated in, and many Chinese scholars discussed Romanticism on their expectations. In the actual literary creation, Guo Moruo put political utilitarian in his Romantic works, and made connection of realistic and romantic literature. On the contrary, Yu Dafu went more conservative and his works shows more aesthetic aspects.Guo Moruo made the combination of Emotionalism and Scientism, which broke the romantic tradition of the criticism to modern industrial civilization. His pantheism based on traditional Chinese culture was also different to the western Catholic warship. In the later period, he put more political issues in his works and made the boundary gradually disappear between Realism and Romanticism.Yu Dafu’s works showed another tendency:he expressed his real emotion in the perspective of Naturalism and in a Rousseau way. This special artistic tendency of Aestheticism made his work more emotional, individual and conservative. In short, the variations caused by the complicated environment of modern China gave us thoughts about so many things, and the reasons still to be discovered.
