From the December of2010till the day this report was finished, the author had worked as an assistant in Shandong University’s International Office, where she cooperated with two other colleagues to translate and edit selected news for Shandong University Newsletter (hereafter referred as SDU Newsletter or NL). This report was based on the author’s news translation experience in the project.The report introduced the background of the project, described its working mechanism and provided an explicit description of the quality control mechanism. The report was focused on analyzing specific problems and obstacles the author had encountered in translation. It then provided several practical suggestions for news translation. From micro-perspectives, the report provided several pieces of advice in the translation of news headlines, Chinese culture-loaded words and proper nouns. From macro-perspectives, the report elaborated on the adaptation strategy, which is the most popular translation strategy adopted in media translation. It discussed the application of adaptation strategy in dealing with information, translating the lead and the quotation.As the project was meant to last long hereafter and would involve many students of the School of Foreign Languages and Literature of Shandong University, the author hoped that this report could be helpful for other students who would like to take the project.
