| Bei Meng Suo Yan is a famous historical note novel in Tang and Five Dynasties, whose author is Sun Guangxian. The time of this book is confirmed and its integrity is completely preserved. The content is extensive and can provide a good reflection of language characteristics at that time, so this book has great value of language research.The research object is polysyllabic synonyms of Bei Meng Suo Yan and this study will provide a microscopic, and detailed analysis of noun, verb, and ajective synonyms. Based on the analysis, the study will discuss the generating characteristics, causes, development and differentiation of polysyllabic synonyms of Bei Meng Suo Yan. The auther hopes that this research could provide some reference data for modern Chinese synonymy research and the development of Chinese lexical history.The thesis consists of four chapters:The first chapter is introduction, including a simple introduction of Bei Meng Suo Yan and its author Sun Guangxian, the research value of Bei Meng Suo Yan, a related review and summary of research situation of ancient Chinese synonyms and Bei Meng Suo Yan, and value in the study of, research status and the significance of this research and method.The second chapter makes clear the definition and determinating method of Bei Meng Suo Yan synonyms, summarizes the features of polysyllabic synonyms in Bei Meng Suo Yan, and classifies all the synonyms from the perspective of grammar.The third chapter selects some representative synonyms for analysis from the verb synonyms, adjective synonyms,and noun synonyms. The analyzig angles involve semantic, grammar and pragmatic dimensions.The fourth chapter discusses reaons of Bei Meng Suo Yan polysyllabic synonyms. The reasons can be divided into time factors, social reasons, and rhetorical factors. Finally analysis of the differentiation and development of Bei Meng Suo Yan polysyllabic synonyms is provided. In the development of language, synonymous phrases are in constant change, and the synonym clusters in Bei Meng Suo Yan undergo differentiation in the following developments.
