Since the Opium War, the western powerful countries speeded up the aggressionon China. The Qing Dynasty was in imminent danger with both the domestic strifeand foreign aggression. In order to save the nation from subjugation and ensure itssurvival, many enlightened intellectuals come up with new and better ways to domake it. Wang Zhichun was born in this environment. As one of the dominancehierarchy, he had a large amount of experience, in the state, he suppressed thepeasants’ uprisings to maintain the federal government of the Qing Dynasty, and atabroad, he actively made his utmost efforts to fight for the nation dignity. At the sametime, he proposal to set up the ambassadors to get contract with the other nationsunder the universal "public law ". As a knowledgeable intellectual, he pretended tolearned from the west from the subjects of not only implements but also the politics,economy, military affairs, diplomacy and the other affects.He broke away from the conservation as he advocated practical statecraft, but hewent far away from the wide of reform as he loyal to the federal government. Histhoughts were the combination of practice and conservation. Although his thoughtshadn’t get rid of the limitation of the time, it still unfolded the distinctivecharacteristics of the transition that China’s stepping into the modern time. It also hadplenty of precious historical information which was quite helpful to the subsequentresearch.
