Li Ciming who experienced the emperor Daoguang, Xianfeng, Tongzhi andGuangxu in the Qing dynasty is a famous writer and scholar of the late Qing dynasty.His literary creations involve poetry, word, ballad, essay, parallel prose drama andso on. And among such creations, poetry is the most prominent one. From his poetry,large in number, rich in content, various in feature, you can see Li Ciming’ changes inimperial examinations and career, love and marriage, conditions in making friends,the pastoral feelings, the important things taking place in the late Qing dynasty. Alsoyou can know the wealthy classical allusions, the special buddhism elemenets, the artstyles which are fresh and elegant or gloomy and dreary.This article is divided into three chapters except introduction and conclusion.Introduction briefly describes the writings of Li Ciming, the research condition of hisliterary creations and theory, the significance and method of study for this article.Chapter I writes Li Ciming’ life erperiences. On the imperial examination, he becamea Xiucai when aged22, a Juren when aged42and a Jingshi when aged52. Chapter IIwrites the main content of Li Ciming’ poetry. Li Ciming’ poems include pastoralpoetry,signing times poetry, contact poetry, love and marriage poetry. According to LiCiming’ life experiences, the pastoral poetry is analysed from four stages which areearlier years staying in hometown, middle years leaving home and staying in thecapital city, later years returning to home, the last years going to Beijing again. Thesigning times poetry described political events and natural disasters happening in thelate Qing dynasty. The contact poetry described the contact with friends, expressedthe miss, appreciation and hope to them and also reflected Li Ciming’ talent forknowledge. The love and marriage poetry dscribed the emotions to wife, concubinesand gays. Chapter III writes the features of Li Ciming’ poetry. There are plenty ofclassical allusions in Li Ciming’ poems. He made use of classical allusions to expressthe emotions between different people. He used special buddhism elemenets indescribing temples, mourning dead and pursuing recluse. The art styles of his poetryare fresh and elegant mainly, gloomy and dreary incidentally. And the art style relatesto the image and the colour of the words in poems. Conclusion makes sure of LiCiming’s position in the modern history of poetry combined with his poetry claims.
