| Objective:To describe the willingness to seek professional help for psychological problems among rural residents in Liuyang County, Hunan province. To explore the associated factors of willingness to seek professional help for psychological problems among rural residents. To provide scientific evidences for further health promotion about mental health among rural communities.Methods:By multi-staged cluster random sampling, two towns were selected from Liuyang county, and then two villages were randomly selected from each town, two teams randomly selected from each village. All the qualified residents were taken as theoretical sample. MK, PHQ-9, DDS, self-designed general information inventory and one question to assess the willingness were applied to evaluate all the qualified residents.Results:2052residents were included in the study.1638(79.8%) residents would like to seek professional help for psychological problems, while318(15.5%) residents would not and96(4.7%) were not sure whether to seek help or not.The independent risk factors of willingness to seek professional help for psychological problems among rural residents in non-conditional logistic regression analysis were male(OR=1.327,95%CI:1.033-1.704), under employment(OR=0.689,95%CI:0.479-0.993), partially grasp mental health knowledge(OR=0.644,95%CI:0.480-0.868), have a good command of mental health knowledge(OR=0.584,95%CI:0.349-0.977)5numbers of items indicating positive attitudes towards psychiatric disorders(OR=0.768,95%CI:0.633-0.931)and depressive symptoms last two weeks (OR=1.363,95%CI:1.168-1.590).Conclusions:Most residents would like to seek professional help for psychological problems.The independent risk factors of the willingness to seek professional help for psychological problems are male, unemployment, being unaware of mental health knowledge, negative attitudes towards psychiatric disorders and depressive symptoms last two weeks. |
