MaoXiang was a famous adherent, writer and social activist of Ming and Qing dynasties. When he was young, he was famous for the predominant talent. He was keen on the political and joined the rank of the scholar-bureaucrats. Mao Xiang and Fang Yi-zhi, Chen Zhen-hui, Hou Fang-yu were known as "Four Sons of The Late Dynasty". After the downfall of the Ming Dynasty, Mao Xiang went back home and lived in Shuihui Garden. Shuihui Garden had played an important role in his life.First of all, with the demise of the Ming Dynasty, Mao Xiang became frustrated. Thanks to Shuihui Garden, he started a new life. Secondly, as the literati and scholars, Mao Xiang always adhered to the elegant life. He was interested in artistic life, such as writing, drinking, painting and calligraphy. This is the continuation of scholars’culture in late Ming Dynasty. In addition, as a adherent, Mao Xiang always remembered Ming dynasty and united people to against Qing dynasty. He refused to be official and generously funded the patriot’s heirs of the Ming Dynasty. Shuihui garden became the adherents’spirit of the harbor. Finally, compared with other adherents, Mao Xiang’s way of life was unique. This was a result of comprehensive factors, such as family environment, personal choice and public opinions and so on. Mao Xiang and his Shuihui Garden’s life had made important contribution on the Qing Dynasty’s literature, drama and culture.
