This report is based on the translator’s practice of the anthropology essay "Good" Manufacturing by Whose Standards? The essay analyzes the impacts of global and national pharmaceutical governance on the production of traditional medicines—specially the making and marketing of Tibetan medicines in contemporary China.The translator analyzes the stylistic features of the source text first. Then, he focuses his discussion on technical terms, long sentences and discourse, which are the major difficulties in the translation process. In order to enable the target text to function in the proposed academic situation and the scholars, Skopos Theory is employed to guide the translation of the essay. Cases studies show that what methods are chosen and used in the translation to meet the skopos. The translator concludes that, apart from language skills, professional knowledge about the related fields should be acquired. |
