Passive form is one of the important grammatical phenomenons in Chinese language. Due to the lack of form change, the Chinese grammar significance is mainly expressed by constituent order and function words and there is no strict form marker like the indo-european family, so it’s more complicated and becomes an important object of Chinese grammar research.We think that research the passive form in Chinese language is worthy. In this paper, I study the passive form in Pilgrimage to the West from different angles. And I carry on the analytical studies to describe the different forms of the passive during the same period in detail, and also carry on the comparative study between different dynasties to make the development of the passive forms clear, which is helpful to understand the passive form in Pilgrimage to the West.Under the guidance of the idea, we divide the thesis into five chapters:The exordium is the introduction. The main part in this chapter review about the passive form and the Pilgrimage to the West. In addition to this, we also introduce the reason of the topic selection, d the value of the study and the research methods.The first chapter defined the passive form in Pilgrimage to the West and differentiated passive form from other similar concepts, such as "bei(被)"-sentence, passive sentence and patient-subject sentence. Besides this,The second and the third chapter analyzed "bei (被)"-construction of Chinese from sentence pattern and syntactic structure, because there are so many"bei (被)’ construction in Pilgrimage to the West.The forth chapter analyzed "meng (蒙)"-construction and other passive form such as"jian (见)"-construction," Jiao"-construction and "zhuo (着)"-construction. The most important point is to analyze how "meng(蒙)"-construction express passive based on the previous studies. The fifth chapter analyzed the semantic color and the pragmatic function of passive form in Pilgrimage to the West. We divided the semantic color into three categories:positive color, common color and negative color.At last, we summarized the characteristics of the passive forms in Pilgrimage to the West and pointed out that the syntactic structure complication is the most important one.
