Research On Suicide Phenomenon In Rural China

With the world’s suicide rate increasing and suicide events becoming increasingly serious, suicide as a sociological classic topic has attracted more and more attention. Since the beginning, China’s suicide research has been taken seriously, because of he unique characteristics in China, such as suicide by psychiatric illness is low, the rural suicide rate is significantly higher than in the urban and suicide of female is2-3times higher than that of male t of male. Scholars within the disciplines of psychiatry, epidemiology, psychology and sociology, have analyzed China’s suicide phenomenon, especially suicide in rural area, and has made certain findings.This study relies on my supervisor’s national social science fund project, a project about the influencing factors of suicidal behavior and social interventions of two types of high-risk groups in rural China. I participate in China’s rural suicide research, use literature research, field survey and in-depth interview, get the basic situation of130suicide cases in a county, interview45cases and organize a large amount of valuable first-hand information. This study bases on the perspective of interpreting sociology tradition, analyzes China’s rural suicide characteristics, interprets and analyzes the suicide operations, motives, values, incentives and influencing factors, and on the understand of suicide basis, classifies the suicide incentives and influencing factors, bases on the causes of suicide and influencing factors, then sums up four suicide type, the social dysfunctional relationship suicide, the psycho-social suicide, the social environment influence suicide and comprehensive suicide. On this condition, interprets and analyzes the typical cases, probes into the motives and values of suicide operations.In the era of China’s reform and opening up and rapid development of China’s economy, society, culture and other aspects, this study explores the deep-seated reasons for suicide. Under the influence of social changes in China, the changes of social relation network, Individual roles and status and Social environment structure in rural China affects the rural people’s psychology and ideology. And then, under the premise of understanding of suicidal behavior, the author proposes feasible recommendations and measures for prevention and intervention in suicide operations. Finally, the author proposes the development direction and trend of Chinese rural suicide problem.
