| Literary translation is a creative art with beauty as its soul, so translators should always keep a heart of beauty-pursuit during the process of translating. Since all literary works are made up of contents and forms, the task of translation is to reproduce the two faithfully. In other words, literary translation is to seek and convey beauty of contents and forms of original texts. The form of one literary work is determined by its content while it serves for expression of the content in return. Apart from the function of conveying contents, it plays a very significant role in profundity, visualization, vividness, impressiveness and other aspects of contents. Forms and contents bring out the best in each other, and it can be said that acquiring of general meaning of works and conveying of works spirits depend on the forms. Hence, it is advisable to pursuit beautiful TL forms as much as possible on the premise of faithfulness to the original works. This paper discusses the causes of beauty-pursuit from psychological and historical factors of translators, generalizes and summarizes types of beauty-pursuit, finds out what proactive beauty-pursuit is, and aims to demonstrate beauty-pursuit in TL forms from the two aspects of syntactic structure and diction by citing examples from the translated Chinese versions of Tortilla Flat. The purpose is to highlight the beauty of content through the beauty of form. Face up to and be proactive for beauty-pursuit when translating, which will produce practical significance to the future translation to some extent. |
