Poetry is a literary genre of lyric expression and ambition. It uses highly condensed language to vividly express the rich feelings of the poet, concentrates on reflecting social life with a certain rhythm. The translation of excellent foreign English poetry into China can arouse people’s thinking on social problems, broaden the horizon of target language readers and enrich their spiritual world.Rupi Kaur’s The Sun and Her Flowers tells her own emotional experiences and thoughts on social issues from a first-person perspective,so as to convey people’s cognition of self-feelings,criticism of sexism and enlightenment for women’s growth. This practice report summarizes the author’s translation of The Sun and Her Flowers. In the process of translation, the author summarizes the following three difficulties: 1)In the aspect of beauty in form, the reproduction of line length and repetitive structure is the first difficulty;2)On the level of beauty in sound, the reproduction of alliteration and rhyme is the second difficulty.3)On the level of beauty in sense, the reappearance of the original poem’s style and rhetorical devices is the third difficulty. In his book The Art of Translation,Mr.Xu Yuanchong,a Chinese author, summed up the viewpoint of "beauty in form, beauty in sound and beauty in sense" in poetry translation, namely “Three Beauties Theory”.The book The Sun and Her Flowers aims to convey people’s cognition of self-emotion,criticism of gender discrimination and enlightenment to the growth of women.Choosing Three Beauties Theory as the theoretical basis for poetry translation can reflect the beauty of the translated poem and enhance the translation value of the original poem.In the process of translation, the target readers should be the center. It should give play to the author’s subjective initiative, and create a certain amount of translated poetry. It should be as far as possible to correctly convey the content of the original poem, appropriately change the language style of the original poem, and translate the poem that fits the Three Beauties Theory,so as to make the readers have the same experience as the original readers.According to the above translation difficulties, corresponding translation strategies will be adopted under the guidance of the Three Beauties Theory: 1)In the aspect of beauty in form, repetition, literal translation and adaptation are adopted to achieve the consistency of line length and repetitive structure with the original poem;2)In the aspect of beauty in sound, free translation and adaptation are adopted to reproduce alliteration and end rhyme of the original poem;3)In the aspect of beauty in sense, the conversion of part of speech, free translation and adaptation should be adopted as far as possible to reproduce the style of the original text. This report aims to provide some reference for poetry translation.
