| Qi Baishi, a greatest artist in the Chinese modern history of art, is deeply loved and respected by all Chinese people and people all over the world. It can be said he is like a shining star in the heart of our artists. Qi Baishi was a cowherd when he was a child, then he became a carpenter from a peasant, and at last he became a great and splendid artist. Why his art is unique? Firstly, it depends on his genius and diligence. Secondly, he grew in the environment of Huxiang culture in which innovation and creativity had rooted in people’s mind deeply. Thirdly, he was born in a peasant family; as a result, he had deep affections for the people in the bottom of society. He was honored with the title of "People’s Artist" by the Ministry of Culture in1953, and the World Council bestowed the Prize for Peace in1955to him three years later. His speech in the ceremony of International Prize of Peace can show his diligence and his mind for creativity and achievements of art."I love my hometown; I love the beautiful land of my motherland and I love all the livings on the earth. And I spend my lifetime in putting an ordinary people’s feeling into the paintings and the poems.""Qi Baishi was quite famous for his comprehensive and exquisite artistic achievements in Chinese painting field in20th century, but the most outstanding accomplishment lies in his Chinese painting. Qi Baishi is good at all forms of art, such as figure painting, landscape painting and flower-and-bird painting. He inherits the artistic feature of many great artists, like Xu Wei, Zhu Da and the Eight Eccentric Artists of Yangzhou. He also inherits Wu Changshuo’s spirit of innovation and creativity. What is more, he absorbs enough nutrition from the folk art. The reason why he can become a true artist is that he can learn useful things from others and he can be engaged in life.As for his art of painting, his landscape painting has not attracted as much attention and concern as his flower-and-bird painting. Exactly speaking, because of his great reputation on flower-and-bird painting, his artistic feature of landscape painting, to some extent, is ignored. For it is too over-genius, it is good to appreciate but is not suitable to stimulate and learn. If without his talent and brilliance, without his comprehensive competence in poems, books, paintings and engravings, it is impossible to paint as well as his landscape paintings. When observing his artistic works, it is obviously found that his landscape painting is a very important part in his artistic life. Because of the unique style, his landscape painting is a useful way to understand his creation and idea.Based on the creation process of Qi Baishi’s landscape painting, this thesis tries to find out its artistic characteristic from the learning stage to the revolution stage at last to the mature stage, and then aims to analyze the artistic features of language and aesthetic realm as well as their relationship. The conclusion is presented after the author collecting some data and reading a lot of literatures, and appreciating his authentic works. This study is on the influence of Qi Baishi’s landscape painting on the creation of modern landscape painting, which is of great value because it can guide the creation of landscape painting and give directions for the research practice. |
