| As the Tower Shop was published in1987, Liu Zhenyun has got extensiveattention in the academia. Grasping Liu’s novels as a whole, we will find that hisworks present a carnival tendency. This article attempts to made a deep research ofLiu’s novels, and to find and build a carnivalesque world in his works. At the sametime, in order to summarize the carnival characteristics in Liu’s novels, this article isalso attempted to explore the starting point of carnival in Liu’s works. Reading deeplyof Liu’s novels, we will find this carnival world is built up by foul language, teasingand miscellaneous language, the alternating fate and structure, as well as thegrotesque and double figures. In addition, as this carnival stems fromnon-governmental perspective and it performs as an “ironyâ€, so Liu Zhenyun reflectsironically in the political power, history and human’s living state. And such reflectionis because of Liu Zhenyun is made to be marginalized as an intellectual. Trudging inthe temples, squares and folk fields, he chooses folk as his living place and examinethe world in a folk view. In Liu’s opinion, politics, history and human’s living stateare being in the absurdity.The political power is absurd, the history is a transmigration,and human’s existence is also exhausted and helpless. Liu Zhenyun’s desire for thefree and equal contact is containing in this feeling of absurdity. |
