A Study On Traversing In Tang Novels

Traversing is the basic narration modle of the traversing novels, It is mainly used to illustrate the legendary experience of modern people who left the reality, and traversed into a different space. In fact. It has been frequently employed in Chinese ancient literary works,and also can be found in Tang novels.This paper concentrates mainly on the study of traversing plots in Tang novels, taking novels in "TaiPingGuangJi"for examples,the paper mainly discusses three types of traversing and and especially attaches great importance to the cultural background of it, as well as the relationship between traversing and the independence of Tang novels as a literature form.this paper is divided into five chapters:The first chapter starts from the definition of traversing, then makes a review over some literary phenomenons in classical Chinese literature and western literature,then sets up some Tang novels with traversing plots.The second chapter:Basing on the collection of materials,The author teases out three types of traversing plots. It not only refers to the disorientation in time and space. but also includes the transform between the dreamland and the real world as well as the transform among realms of people.ghosts.and spirits.The third chapter:Fictionality and authenticity of traversing novels.although traversing is fictional, the author preferes to emphasize the authenticity and vitality of the story by describing the griftsThe fourth chapter:Discusses the cultural background of traversing,it is composed of three aspects:the brilliant imagination of Tang people, making up for the lostin reality,as well as the influnence of Buddhism and Taoism.The fifth chapter:Traversing and the development of Tang novel as a literature form.Traversing endows Tang novel with a more expansive room of narration.It strongly confirmed the truth that Tang novel had been fictionalized and finally became matured.
