On Strategies In The Translation Of Political Texts

With the rapid development in economy, China has played an increasingly importantrole in the world. In view of this, more and more westerners want to get acquainted withprinciples and policies of our government. The report on the work of the governmentincludes a lot of information on the social, economic and cultural development status andtheir future planning, which provides the channel for the westerners in learning theconditions of our country. Accordingly, the rendition of the government work reportbecomes more and more important and the requirement of its English translation has beengreatly enhanced.This thesis, taking the author’s English translation of the government work report in2011made by Premier Wen Jiabao as a case, analyzes and studies the translation skills in itand the official English version, and concludes some strategies in the translation ofpolitical essays. Political essays take on some special characteristics, such as seriousnessand objectiveness; therefore there are some difficulties in the translation process, rangingfrom long sentences, sentences without subjects to parallel structures. The thesis putsforward corresponding approaches and they can serve as translation strategies in thetranslation of political essays.
