Since our country began to implement professional degree educational system in1991, the education master cultivation programme has been developing very fast. To make adjustment to postgraduate educational structure reform required by socioeconomic situation, the Ministry of Education enrolled the first batch of full time TEFL postgraduate in2009and has fostered many high quality middle and high school teachers. But because full-time TEFL (teachers of English as a foreign language) postgraduate cultivation programme is still at exploratory period, there exist some defects with the programme, such as the problems with curriculum design, teaching staff, assessment and teaching practicum.This thesis intends to study the TEFL postgraduate cultivation mode of Gannan Normal University from students’perspective, finds out its problems and offers some possible suggestions so as to optimize it. This thesis did a survey about current situation of the cultivation programme and researched40TEFL postgraduates by questionnaire and interviews. According to the survey, there existed some merits such as the high quality of teacher educators and teaching practicum which enhances student teachers’ teaching ability, There also emerged some problems with the cultivation model such as student-centered teaching, out-of-date teaching materials, textbook, unbalance between theory and practice and monotonous ways of assessment.At last, this thesis offers some feasible solutions to the above issues and put forward an ideal curriculum with compulsory courses which equip pre-service students with theoretical knowledge and pedagogical knowledge, selective course concerning students’ individual needs and teaching practicum preparing students practical teaching skills, and a University-schools cooperatively cultivation program in which one supervisor is responsible for students’academic knowledge while the other serve as a guide in practical teaching, class management and child and adolescent development.
