A Probe Into The Aesthetic Culture Of Man Making The Boudoir Sounds In Huajian Ci

Huajian Ji (a collection of ci verse in flowers) was the first collection of cipoems in China and recruited as many as five hundred pieces by eighteen ci writers inLate Tang Dynasty. It started the form criterion of ci as a new type of poetry. Like amarvelous flower in the garden of Chinese ancient literature, Huajian Ji boasts uniqueaesthetic significance. This thesis will study the aesthetic value of man making theboudoir sounds in Huajian ci in terms of the consumption of literary activities. Thewhole thesis is composed of four parts:The first chapter begins with the phenomenon of “man making the boudoirsounds” in the respect of traditional female aesthetics and discusses the origin as wellas the progress of this phenomenon. Female aesthetics finally gets rid of the aestheticstandard of morality and appearance after long-term evolution and focuses on thebeauty of feelings.The second chapter digs into the aesthetic value of the descriptive objective,place and affection of the phenomenon “man making boudoir sounds”, that is thebeauty, boudoir and sentimental emotions.The third chapter elaborates the entertaining aesthetic function of Huajian cifrom the aspects of material consumption under male expectation and the emotionalrelease of the ci writers.The last chapter demonstrates the social and psychological causes of “manmaking the boudoir sounds” in terms of the sociology of culture, which includes theconcubine-like mentality under Confucian ideal, the application of Bi andXing(Chinese traditional ways in literature of describing things in a similar orassociative way), poetry creation for “song’s sake”, patriotic and loyal feeling to thethrone as well as the inner bitterness of frustration due to the ignorance of talents.Though the origin of Huajian ci has always been controversial, it’s quiteimportant in the ci history of China and exerts profound influences on later ci creation. This thesis analyzes the aesthetic value of “man making the boudoir sounds” andpresents a fair position of Huajian ci.
