This is a translation project report on Becoming a Translator——An AccelerateCourse by Douglas Robinson, of which Chapter3Translator as Learner is the sourcetext. The main content of Chapter3is that first, the author generally summarized theinformation of translators learning translation. Then he pointed out that translation isan intelligent activity keeping the speed and reliability at the same time. Analyzing thememory of the translator, the author indicated that it is the basis of fast translation. Inaddition, the memory of two categories is closely related to the three elements ofcontext, relevance, multiple encoding. Finally, the author further elaborated how thetranslator can translate faster and have more fun doing it, while maintaining a finereliability through the aspects of memory, context, input, processing and response.Namely, a method and process of how to establish translation experience. The maincontents of this report are divided into four parts: Part One is the translation projectdescription, including project background, objectives and significance as well as thestructure. Part Two is the background of the source text, including the authorintroduction, main contents and analysis of the source text (source text authorintroduction, main contents, objectives and significance). Part Three is abouttranslation difficulties and methods. The difficulties lie in the translation is how todeal with practical writing for science and technology, long sentences as well asfinding ways to display source language characteristics. The methods include divisionand conversion, amplification,omission as well as English-Chinese translation underthe guidance of Functionalist Theory. Part Four concludes with the lessons,implication and unsolved problems in the translation project: maximizing the transferof the message in source text is the most important in translation; to achieve goodtranslation needs a solid linguistic foundation. The translator must master the similarities and differences between two languages; being close to the source text ateach level and focusing on the transfer of equivalent effect are of great importance intranslation.
