The Research Of Chen Jiru’s Preface

Chen Jiru, enjoyed great reputation and social influence in late Qing Dynasty. But because of the value on the schools rather than individuals in Qing Dynasty, the negative evaluation from the Four Archives and others, as well as his prolific prefaces writing which modern humans attach little importance. He has been treated coldly and even ignored by recent literary circles, even some literary history said nothing regarding his achievements. It is quietly clear that the research about him also stay in the primary and general stage, throughout the few existing research achievements related to him. His famous essays often are macroscopically researched as a whole, but the preface, as the overachievement of his essays, have already passed into silence recently.On the foundation of the research situation, the author made researches on the preface of Chen Jiru and sought to analyze it from the following aspects:first, it’s the overview of the development to lay a theoretical foundation. Secondly, the author categorized of his preface according to the combination of stylistic features and styles, inspired by the ancient style classification. Next, on the basis of the style classification, the author analyzed the writing features of his gift-preface, birthday preface human oriented, and his cautious, wise attitude toward life reflected in his text; the extraordinary writing style of preface of his books of poems and essays, and the literary concepts; the author also analyzed the novel content of the prefaces of his old scriptures and the objective and deep historical perspectives reflected in them, as well as the simple analysis of miscellaneous preface. Finally, the author made the analysis and conclusion of the overall body of his prefaces from perspectives of contents and arts. On the basis of the comprehensive interpretation of Chen Jiru’s works, access to the works of his friends and historical materials, discrimination and textual criticism of the writing age, the author drew up the appendix of the thesis of<Writing Time of Preface of Chen Jiru>.
