With the steady improvement in economic strength, China has witnessed an increasinginternational communication in various fields, for which the importance of study onEnglish-Chinese simultaneous interpretation is highlighted. Thus, this paper mainly focuseson logical relations in clauses and sentences and points out that discourse analysis plays animportant role in English-Chinese simultaneous interpreting and emphasis should be given tocohesion in order to produce an affluent interpretationThis thesis, from the comprehension and expression of explicitness and implicitness oflogical links in English-Chinese simultaneous interpreting, their effects on the cohesion of thetarget text and the underlying reasons behind its occurrence, sets out to study theoretically andempirically the effect which logical relations have produced on teaching of English-Chinesesimultaneous interpreting.Teaching of simultaneous interpreting can be affected by various factors, such aspersonal listening, personal knowledge storage, language proficiency, etc. These factors candifferentiate the interpreters’ efforts at the first stage and goals in the short term. But the factorof long-term goal and desire is common, i.e. being a qualified interpreter. However, studentsat the first stage are often anxious and nervous, they are likely to be on guard whenconducting various activities; thus, simultaneous interpretations are often lack of logicalthinking, which is typically reflected in such three aspects as cohesive relations, explicitmarkers and logical links. The case study aims to resolve the following questions:1.Is the target-text logicallylinked within its particular situational context?2. How does the explicitness affect thecohesion of the translated text?3.What are the potential reasons behind the coherence of thetranslated text? Ten students on the case study, from a university of Chang Chun who majorin simultaneous interpreting, do a video simultaneous interpreting according to a lecture. Then the data of using explicit markers were examined and analyzed in terms of theireffects on the cohesion of the source language and target language, whereby the meaning of alanguage unit conforms to the context and thus forms the relationship with others.Owing to differences in structures as well as text-building strategies between the twolanguages, interpreters try their best to make target text acceptable and economic by providingmore implicit markers and using natural cohesive patterns of the target language. At last, the result of the research is: the sentences with logical relations of additive andtemporal using explicit markers in source text, which are easier to be understood andexpressed with less time and effort through implicit markers in the target language by subjects, whereas those sentences of adversative without explicit markers takes longer time to beinterpreted through explicit markers. They will be taken as guidance for teaching andapplication.
