A Tentative Study On Accuracy And Vagueness Of The Official Language

The official writing is an important practice activity that somedepartments deal with official business and convey messages andcarry out management. At the some time, it is a basic skill that thegovernment functionary has to grasp it. A high quality documentcan not only provide the infinite power for a work and enterprise,but also can produce enormous influence on society or history. Allof writing requires a good language foundation. The official writingneeds higher requirements on the language, too. Although the studyof official writing is regarded as important by researchers. Thestudy of official language is few, but the study of accurate languageand vague language is fewer. Some researchers always keen onstudying the vague language in document, but ignore the study ofrelation between accurate language and vague language. It isignored that accurate language and vague languages used in allkinds of documents. In recent years, with the development of official language, a few changing between accurate language andvague language. For example, they are not only interference butalso promotion each other. All kind of official documents havedifferent requirement on accurate language and vague languageand so on. However, this language phenomenon does not attract theattention of linguistics.I write the thesis in order to fill up the blankness about therelation between accurate language and vague language, and Iwant to provide help in the study. The paper’s object study not onlythe relation between accurate language and vague language butalso the application for accurate language and vague language inofficial writing，and those are have some conclusions.The paper has three conclusions:First, in philosophy, the accurate language is unity of opposites.Its opposite relation show that oppose and negative each other. Yetits unified relation is interdependent, to promote, to permeate andto transform each other.Secondly, there are two relationships between accuratelanguage and vague language in application: One relationship ismutually complementary. In addition, the vague language is betterthan the accurate language under the particular situation, whenthey are expressing in the context of official document. Finally, there are two types of application for accurate languageand vague language in official writing:First, in the legal administrative document, there are two typeof title: one is singular title, the other is double title. The singulartitle is used more than the both title in practice. The double titleappears in a few places, for example, announcement, reports, andso on. There are seven contents that are expressed by the accuratelanguage in headline. Those seven contents contain the dispatchorganization. The verbal type approved and transmitted, receiptorgan, the headline of original document, the name of organ and thename of meeting. There are two types to express the origin of anincident in headline: One is expressed by the accurate language,the other is expressed by the vague language. In the doubleheadline, the title is expressed by the vague language. The subtitleis expressed by the accurate language.Secondly, in the legal administrative document, when the textbegins with the reason, there are three types to express: At firstone is expressed by the accurate language. Second one isexpressed by the vague language. Third one is expressed by theaccurate language and the vague language. The main part of text isexpressed by the accurate language when it possesses authority,enforcement or legislation. It is expressed by the vague language when it possesses suggestion, pregnant or summary. It isexpressed by the vague language when the conclusion part isrequirement, hope and calling.
