Locke is a pioneer of British Deism, its deistic thinking plays a very importantposition in the history of Deism and Christian theology doctrine, and also had aprofound impact.The first part combed Locke’s deism ideological background, analyzethe background and the oretical origin of Locke’s deism, also introduced the‘the fatherof British Deism’——Herbert’s deism.The Renaissance, the Enlightenment, religiousreform and sectarian strife, modern science,comprises the background of Locke’sdeism.By the Scholastics inherited the concept of God, the scholastic discourse on therelationship between reason and faith, the British tradition of empiricism, as well asHerbert’s deism idea is the source of the main theoretical ideas of Locke’s deism.In the second part introduces Locke’s thought of God. Locke believed that theidea of God is not a talent, the existence of God is rational, the existence of God can beproved rational. Locke is the first form of deism——‘rational supernaturalism’,themain representative of the third part of this paper start from the four key words ofreason, faith, miracles and revelations described the thinking of Locke’s deism. Lockeproposed a limit theory of the natural religion of the revelation of truth. Lockerecognized the existence of the revelation of truth, and the revelation of the possibilityand necessity. Locke as the miracle of revelation in terms of evidence. Locke believedthat faith must be rational, but the human reason is limited, access to knowledge withthe revelation. The revelation knowledge from the rational, but it must be consistentwith the rational; revelation only faith can not prove.Locke attaches great importance to the moral dimensions of religion, caused bythe moral support of religious tolerance, and the fourth part of the article this specificanalysis. Locke believed that religion is beyond our rational able to demonstrate thescope of contradiction, but that does not mean that the Christian doctrine of the natureand reason. To this end, he specialized in the rationality of the Christian vigorousdefense, he thinks that morality is the Christian, forgiveness is the true spirit of Christianity, he strongly advocates freedom of belief and religious tolerance, andpointed out that the religious tolerance of the three grounds, but also limits the scope ofapplication of the principle of tolerance.The last part of this article, in-depth analysis of the ideas of Locke’s deism. Locke’s deism is the most far-reaching effects, is that hegives a clear experience on the characteristics of the later Deists feel on the philosophyof Locke’s empiricism regarded as the cornerstone of its brilliant argument for theirtolerance doctrine seeking basis. Locke advocated the freedom of belief, religioustolerance and secularism, anti-feudal clericalism and religious fanaticism, the spirit ofthe doctrine, in theology, history and the history of ideas have had a far-reachingimplications.
