A Study Of The Contemporary Of Caiguoqiang’s Art

All through history, the contemporary period is the time which people always delight in taking about but feel difficult to utter. Contemporary is fresh, full of contradictions and conflicts, having strong links with the past, but also pointing to the future, in the state of constant changing. As an important part of the world’s contemporary art, Chinese contemporary art is facing a very complex situation, which doesn’t show any regularity. Thus the "macro sociological reading of art" can not automatically show the contemporary traits of Chinese contemporary art. We should start from the individual artist and write the micro history to present different reactions from different artists on common social issues. The discussion and research of individual artists become very necessary and urgent in the research of Chinese contemporary art.In general, the main part of the whole text is divided into three parts:first, through distinguishing some related concepts, the first part gives a rough definition of the "contemporary ". The second part discusses in the aspect of art conditions how the characteristics of Chinese artist Caiguoqiang’s media, methods of artistic expressions and his ways of exhibition lie the foundation of the contemporariness of his art; The third part deals three topics of Cai’s art works in the context of locality and globalization:human and nature, universal caring and conversations in time and space between the east and the west.Through analyzing the conditions and the themes of Caiguoqiang’s art works, this paper aims at exploring how the artists have created contemporary works in a world which promote cultural pluralism. The analysis of the contemporariness of Cai’s works can not only shed light on the possibilities of Chinese contemporary art and culture in a larger view, but will also enables us to deepen our understanding of the nature of contemporary art...
