The novel Water of the Dark Blue Wave written by Yan Zhen, a Hunan writer, was firstly published in 2001 and was proved to be a great success upon its publication. The novel, composed of more than thirty thousand words, flowingly unfolds the story before the readers, depicting profoundly the contradictions and struggles of the protagonist as an intellectual. Professor Yan wrote as a thinker, requesting and searching for the meaning of life. For the translation part, the author selects chapter one, two and ninety four, namely the part about "my" life in Sanshan Col and the part about "my" coming back in glory and visiting "my" father’s tomb. Then for the critical commentary part, the author will apply the literary stylistic approach to analyze the translation text from the aspect of lexicon and syntax, evaluating its rendering of the original style and the thematic meaning.
