From the perspective of narratology, hermeneutics, the point of view ofconsumer culture as well as the film and television adaptations, this thesis focuseson the change between the literary text of the civil servants and its adaptedtelevision text, and then discusses the established relationship models so as toexplore the underlying reasons. This thesis is composed of five chapters includingthe introduction, theory, and author interviews. Through the textual comparison,the opening introduction analyzes the similarities and differences between theliterary text of the civil servants and its adapted television text in terms of the plots,characterization, narrative points, in order to point out that the possibility andnecessity of two heterogeneous homogeneous text. Chapter Two is about theapplication of hermeneutics and aesthetics of reception theory, the relationship ofthese two texts are stated in details, the communication bridges of author, editorand reader are attempted to be built up by discussing the plot themes, imageunderstanding and the meanings. In Chapter three, in the view of culturalconsumption, the author explores a series of changes that the print media turnedinto the TV media, then takes the adapted version of the civil servants as anexample to specifically analyses the shift in text vectors, transformation ofconsumer culture and aesthetic needs. The fourth chapter is covered with thefurther thinking about film and television adaptations through the comparison andworks of similar effect, the universal significance of the civil servants is going tobe concluded, which is intended to provide the profound consideration anddirection for television adaptation theory.
