Translation Project Report For The Tracking Study Report On The Entire Relocation And Reconstruction Of The Area Hard-hit Area By The Wenchuan Earthquake (Chinese Summary)

This is a Chinese-English translation report for The Tracking Study Report onthe Entire Relocation and Reconstruction of the Area Hard-hit by the WenchuanEarthquake. The translation belongs to applied translation. The language in thetranslation material is formal, including many construction vocabularies. Proposedby translation theorist Eugene Nida, the Functional Equivalence theory focuses onthe functional equivalence between two languages rather than the rigidcorresponding on words so as to equalize the reader’s understanding towards thetranslated version with that of the original reader to the original text. Therefore, wewill conclude that the Functional Equivalence theory has provided efficienttheoretical guidance towards the applied translation. Based on the FunctionalEquivalence theory, the article has discussed the problems in the process oftranslation and the author has conducted the translation work in accordance with thebasic principle of the theory. Chapter1gives an overall introduction to thetranslation report, including the content, background information, translation goal aswell as the structure of the report. Chapter2gives a detailed explanation to theFunctional Equivalence theory and makes analysis on the language character of thematerial. Chapter3talks about the approaches and methods in the translation fromthe prospective of the Functional Equivalence theory. Chapter4makes a summary ofthe translation report, lists the problems and experience in the translation and pointsout the limitations in the translation.
