"Lord of the Rings",serial works of Professor Tolkien (1892—1973) of British Oxford University.lt has caused many disputes and has a worldwide reputation since it was been created,and a unsurpassable heights of the modern fantasy literature.The describes and concern on the death follows the exploring meaning of life and death in western literature,the features of fantasy literature is clear in its death nattative,the distinction of elf and human shows the different human nature of life limitation,and then cause conflicts of moral,values,good and evil,by creating various kinds of characters to express ponder of the relationship between life and death.This thesis inclues three Parts.The first part summarize Tolkien’s work and study matters.The second part is the body part,which devices into three chapters.The firt chapter analyzes Tolkien’s theory and talk about the meaning and value to the development of fantasy literature,and point out that one of the subjects of the novels is death,and it’s fuction and significance to creat the second world successfully. The second charpter analyzes the death in the novels,including three story interconnected with death,and exploring the influence of the death on the fate and choice of the character.The three chapter emphasizes the influence of norse mythology and catholic relief on the narrating style of death in the novels,and points out it has a best wishes by exploring the unique concept "eueatastrophe". The last charpter is the epilogue,which is the conclusion about the thesis.
