When the Nature Religion was very popular,Hume founded his own religious philosophy. Based on the position of empiricism and skepticism, Hume analysed all the temporal demonstratations of the existence of Deity, including Miracles、the Argument from Design、the Cosmological Argument and the Argument from Morality. He figured that all the demonstratations were lack of empirical and logical proof, even if we could prove the existence of Deity, Deity was the one that is not so omniscient, omnipotent and full of good as we wanted. Therefore, he applied his critique that the reason was the basis of faith. Furthermore, he argued that Religion originated from People’s ordinary emotions. Meanwhile, he applied his critique to the popular opinion that Religion is the basis and the pledge of Morality. He figured that Morality was based on People’s emotion, either. And the dogmas as the guarantee for Morality, that were the immortality of the soul and the retribution of good and evil, were also lack of empirical and theoritical proof. Therefore, these dogmas can’t give security for Morality. Actually, the corruption of Religion brought about superstition and religious fanaticism. Compared with polytheism, monotheism was more intolleranza, furthermore, it even suppressed human nature and undermined the rational spirit. In one word, the corruption of Religion had pernicious influence on Morality. However, according to his religious critical theory, we could’t conclude that Hume was an atheism. In fact, true religion in Hume’s heart is skeptical and out of judgment.Although we could’t draw exact conclusions, we could harvest happiness and obtain satisfies.Hume’s religious thought signified the beginning of modern religious philosophy,so it had a profound influence.
