Study Of Zhongchang Tong’s Thought

Zhongchang Tong as the last representative figure of the Sociai Critical Trend in Late Eastern Han Dynasty, his characters are unique, and his thought is radical, has a particular place in the history of ancient Chinese thought. His political essay Chang Yan is full of Confucian positive spirits and deep sense of crisis, shows the life orientation of putting himself into society. Chang Yan’s connotation is "Person is the main aspect, and God is the vice aspect", against autocratic monarchy, against "Divine right of Kings",and view of history of the disorder and peace in circulation, meritocratic, using high salary to build honest and so on, which made a loud sounds, and Chang Yan combines with Confucianism, Legalism, Taoists, and other famous thought, which not only highlights the complex thought of Zhongchang Tong, also shows the diversification tendency of thought of the Late Han Dynasty Scholars. His famous prose like Lezhilun and poem like Jianzhishi are filled with the rich flavor of Taoism,showing of the Psychological changes after Zhongchang Tong thoroughly lost hope to the reality. Zhongchang Tong’s thought are totally different from then on, the difference was the reflection of the characteristics of the period. As a famous thinker in the Jian’an period and inherited the Confucianism and Taoism, Zhongchang Tong started the elegant demeanour of the Wei and Jin Dynasties. Through the analysis of Zhongchang Tong’s thought, we can not only understand the development of the thought and literature trends in the Jian’an period, but also help sort out the clues of the ideas from Confucianism Reverence change to the Metaphysics during the Late Eastern Han Dynasty and the Wei and Jin Dynasties, and at the same time it provides us a reference for the ideological construction for today’s society.
