The paper focuses on the study of lexical cohesion in the text ofrelegation poetry with the help of cohesion theory of systemic functionalgrammar. The relegation poetry is one kind of poetry which ancient officialswrote down to express their depression after relegation and whose words arethe soul of the poetry and are used silently and tactfully. And these words, ofcourse, magnificent and neat, have expressed their gloomy feeling explicitly. The poetry often expresses mixed emotion depending on sundry things orscenery, including a thousand thought inside, which results in vaguecomprehension. How to understand the words used in the poem, how to graspthe discourse structure, and from what angle to comprehend their complicatedattitude are the main goals of this study. The paper attempts to use lexical cohesion created by Halliday andHasan due to the feature of relegation poetry whose words are neat andorderly. It is important to understand and translate the poetry byunderstanding lexical cohesion. At the same time, genre knowledge is one ofthe most important discourse theories. Lexical cohesion is one of importantmechanism to realize the coherence of a text, and it mainly establishescohesion relationship through vocabulary selection, organization andpolymerization. This paper uses the lexical cohesion theory created byHalliday and Hasan, focusing on the vocabulary in the poems, discussing theconstruction of the text of the poetry cohesive function, so as to explain thepoem text mechanism, and dig out the great effort with which the poet usevocabulary in a poem. This paper briefly expounds five kinds of lexical cohesion means-- repetition, synonymy, antonym, hyponymy and collocation (for someacademics haven’t reached a consensus of the definition and classification, the author gives the personal point of view), and the five kinds of lexicalcohesion are put into a meaningful means to analyze specific wording, through these example research, this paper reveals that the lexical cohesion inthe discourse plays a role on the link. The author points out: first of all, repetition cohesion is a kind of the most commonly used cohesion in manyfamous poems, especially its high frequency, tone, and emphasis. Althoughcumbrous repetition is the one taboo in language use, in certain circumstancesconscious vocabulary can have powerful rhetorical effect. This repetitivemethod can help text organization and make semantic be well versed in.Especially in literary works, the repetition of words is to express strongfeelings of common tendency. When the author wants to express extremeemotions and lack of suitable vocabulary performance, vocabulary repeat isundoubtedly a direct and strong expression means, and also abounded theauthor’s extreme emotion. Second, synonyms cohesion is from the point ofview of rhetoric to make the same semantic get two or a variety of expressionway, so as to luster the poetry language grace. Across the sentences usingsynonyms has a higher frequency, so that the poetry language expression hasmore flexibility and motion. Antonyms cohesion makes two meaning oppositeobviously, from both the positive and negative aspects to describe the topic, and enhances the poetry language’s art tension. Synonyms and antonyms inthe discourse through effective word use avoid the problem of repeatingvocabulary, make the language abound with change and vividness, evenmore strongly expressed the speaker’s emotional inclinations, adjust therhythm of the language, strengthen the tone of the author, and make themeaning of the text clear. In addition, compared to the English language, in most text synonymous Chinese is far more than the English in using, and theyare translated into English but only an English word is often enough toexpress meaning, and also, a single English word can be translated into one ofChinese synonyms which strengthen the vitality. Again, on hyponymycohesion, the emergence of the word order is not just the same all the time. The word appearing after the word of righteousness under the correspondingrighteousness is for outlining the word, and the word appearing afterrighteousness under the corresponding on the righteous word is forcompleting. Mutual echoes, bringing out the best in each other and therelationship of existence, no matter how to order, are the meticulous design, matting below and making the poetry coherent. Finally, collocation cohesion, closing cohesion is more familiar, which is very suitable for verse antithesisneat request, but occasionally open cohesion breaks the routine surprisingly. The poet often does not have delicate arrangements, but the fruit isunexpected. In addition, collocation cohesion takes a series of words toremind the reader of the collocation of a potential associative memory. Theassociative memory helps language information for better explanation, and atthe same time has a lot of potential semantic guidance for prediction of thepoetry. The article argues that the use of lexical cohesion in the relegation poemtext construction plays an important role. By studying the poems of lexicalcohesion and repeatedly considering writers’ elaborate design, it is not hard tofind that relegation poetry text stay peace on surface, actually being restlessinside. Injustice and sorrow exist in every sentence and word where lexicalcohesion in the poetry text acts the role. In view of this, it can be said that thisarticle for poetry study and enjoy opens the door to a new window, and alsohave certain reference and guidance to the famous poem text translation teaching.
