The "double" which mentioned in The Theatre and Its Double,is also a main clue of all Artaud’s theatric theory. This paper focuses on Double’s real meaning, how the "Double" system forms, its origin and how to summon it.The paper mainly discusses the following problems. Firstly, we discuss the process that how "double" translate into "ChongYing". It also shows our understanding about it have been deepened during these years.In the second part, we discuss three groups of "double" which have a relationship step by step:individual and multiple-self, human being and eternal ghost, theatre and life. By the drama The Shell and Clergy, we try to analysis why the performing is the mingle of these three groups.In the third part, on the base of Artaud’s special experience,we discuss the origin of "double". Firstly, it comes from the extreme experience,such as nearly-death feeling during his electric shocks, and also his imaginary after his treatments. At the same time, original culture, Symbolism, Surrealism offer a abundant nutrition for the systematic development of " double "In the fourth part, it focus on how to summon "double", such as by the sign of body. Moreover, creating a empty space.By researching the real meaning of "double", how the "double" system forms, its origin, how to summon it and what he had gone through,we’ve got a new angle of view to excavate the inner soul of Artaud’s theatric theory.
